RIYADH, March 8, 2018 – “International Women’s Day (IWD) has been celebrated on March 8th since 1900 and is a global celebration which highlights social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
Upon reflecting on something to write for IWD 2018, I came across some text on Mary Parker Follett an American social worker, sociologist and author in the early 1900’s; “this insightful women defined management as ‘the art of getting things done through people’, she believed that collaborative working was the most effective way for organizations to operate advocating ‘power with colleagues’ rather than ‘power over’ employees”.
Closer to home, under King Salman’s direction, Mohammed Bin Salman is progressing societal and economic overhaul of our Kingdom through Vision 2030 and this agenda provides a platform for increased opportunities for all of us. Earlier this year we witnessed a historic day in the Kingdom with the attendance of ladies at league football games for the first time and we will soon see cinemas opening their doors for the first time in over 30 years, not to forget June 2018 when our female colleagues and female family members will be able apply for their driving license and venture on the roads of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The theme for International Women’s Day in 2018 is #pressforprogress, there is no doubt that this theme will resonate for all of as we see progress within the Kingdom, progress within our growing business and progress for us all individually and collectively.
Lastly and most importantly on #IWD2018, as we reflect on these key themes, please join me in thanking our inspirational female colleagues within the SRSC who continue to demonstrate ‘the art of getting things done’, ensure we ‘work with our colleagues’, are leading lights in supporting our contribution to VISION 2030 and continue to ‘press for progress’ one day at a time.
So especially to Nouf, Tracy, Sarah, Suzanne, Areen, Ohoud, Fai & May. Thank you for all at you do, driving progress within our kingdom, within our business and within each and every one of us … making us proud every single day!” – Neil Bevan, CEO
